WHO ARE WE ?

Film cinematographic acts

As part of the International Jean Rouch Festival, the Premiers Regards festival offers an overview of French universities
documentaries production by highlighting graduation projects produced by master students.
In 2020, the third edition once again reveals a rich programme of documentaries works made by students from various
backgrounds. It offers a unique opportunity to discover the first cinematographic gesture of emerging filmmakers
and researchers.
Premiers Regards wishes to give an insight into the plurality, the emergence and the vivacity of the «cinéma du réel». It can be documentary, essay or experimental. We wish to tell the story of it’s languages, it’s challenges, it’s aesthetic and narrative forms of life in order to witness the contemporary documentary creation.

Diversity of film genres and motifs

Let’s have a trip between unidentified filmic objects or more classic forms but no less exciting documentary films... Premiers Regards claims the diversity of film genres and motifs : all forms and subjects are welcome ! Whether critical,
anthropological or poetic gestures, experimentation, portraiture, singular or celebrating the common, super 8 films, or even films made with a mobile phone.

Collective art

Organised around screening sessions followed by debates, this event also brings together workshops, an international films selection out of competition, a conference, a roundtable meeting and professional and artistic encounters that we hope will be accessible to different audiences.
Cinema is also a «collective art» : the Festival Premiers Regards aims to guide the public, to encourage exchanges, debates, sharing and experimentation in a space of reflection with a collective and collaborative dimension.
The selection and programming work is done by students, young researchers or young graduated volunteers from various backgrounds.
We seek to create a network of young directors and documentary film enthusiasts in order to encourage intercultural and solidarity exchanges.
